Actions: Bitter tonic to stimulate appetite and digestion. Clears heat from the blood and lowers fevers. Depurative (dispels toxins). Immunomodulatory (potentiates immune system activity); anti-inflammatory; antibacterial; antiviral. Hepatoprotective (liver protectant); choleretic (increases bile flow). Respiratory expectorant. Uses: Treatment of fevers and various infections: prevention and treatment of upper respiratory infections like colds, flu and coughs; sore throat and tonsillitis; urinary tract infections; gastro-intestinal tract infections; infectious hepatitis. Herpes. Allergies, hay fever and sinusitis. To protect the liver against infectious or toxic agents.
Dose: Take 30 to 40 drops, 2 to 4 times per day.
Cautions: Centuries of traditional use have shown Andrographis to be a very safe remedy. However, modern medical studies on rats suggest that Andrographis may have an anti-fertility effect in large, long-continued doses. Therefore, until this issue is clarified, women who are pregnant, or desire to get pregnant, are advised to avoid taking Andrographis.
